Three hundred and fifty million dollars. That is the total American box office gross of “American Pie”, “American Pie 2″, and “American Wedding”. That’s fairly astonishing. In fact, it is so huge that these three movies spawned a few straight to video sequels that I’m sure are fairly terrible. That’s a bit of a shame as the original three movies are…dare I say it…not that awful. In fact, there are several hilarious moments in them. Sure, they get a bit over sentimental and there was the massive party foul of using Van Morrison’s “Into The Mystic” in the closing scene of the third flick. That’s just an unfair attack on the human emotional system.

The latest trailer for the fourth (and please sweet dear Lord the final) installment, “American Reunion”, doesn’t look like things have changed much. It’s the same characters acting exactly the same, only now they look older and one has a beard. Oh, there is one more change: We all have 100% confirmation that Chris Klein is not a real actor. That guy makes Keanu Reeves look like Kenneth Branagh.

However…I’m interested. It’s not because I’m so connected to these characters or I think it’s a series of movies that identify with my generation or some nonsense like that. I am interested because of the chance this movie will mock the sheer stupidity of the high school reunion.

It is pretty cool that James’ “Laid” is still the theme song for these movies. That was quite the underrated band from the 1990s. Also, they called an album “Laid”…which meant you could ask people “Did you get ‘Laid’ yet?”. That’s pretty fun.

The BAFTA-winning international hit spy drama returns for a nail-biting tenth and final series. With the truth about Lucas North finally revealed, and following his rooftop showdown at the end of the last series, Harry is facing some complicated questions about the future of Section D as well as some skeletons from his own past. Relationships between the CIA and MI-5 have never been more strained, but add the Russian secret service to the mix and Harry and his team have a power time-bomb on their hands. Fast-paced, tense and exhilarating, the latest series sees the team tested to their limits as the pressure is on to stop whoever is attacking the fledgling relationship between Britain and Russia. Bonus features include Harry’s Game featurette and Top Ten MI-5 Moments.

For the first time, BBC Home Entertainment releases a Blu-ray and DVD combo pack in the U.S. marketplace. This highly anticipated three-part series, Ocean Giants, will highlight the many spectacular animals that call the great sea their home. Among these are the mysterious yet beautiful dolphins and whales, which have enticed and mesmerized children and adults alike. Through the years the mystery has been broken down as our knowledge grows about these fascinating creatures, from their mental ability and group communication to their hunting and mating patterns. Ocean Giants goes deep under the waves in search of a new understanding of what it means to be a whale or dolphin. Ace underwater cameramen Doug Allan and Didier Noirot embark on a quest to capture unique moments in the lives of whales and dolphins, from the Amazon to the Arctic. Teaming up with the world’s top cetacean scientists, they uncover new insights into the lives of these extraordinary animals that will redefine how we see them forever.

I had to hunt down a clip for this movie because the trailer is horrible and sells this movie all wrong; it’s not some corky Guy Ritchie film, like RocknRolla. Instead of seeking out the trailer, watch this clip and see Billy Crudup’s “steal-show” performance.

“Thin Ice” is a flawed but watchable film about how far ordinary people will go when they cross the moral line (yeah, I was thinking “Fargo” too).

Greg Kinnear plays Mickey Prohaska (a role similar to his character in “Little Miss Sunshine”), a insurance salesman whose business and impending divorce have left him strapped for cash. He’s a man who can’t catch a break… until he finds one when new employee, Bob Egan (David Harbour, “Revolutionary Road”), tries to sell a homeowner’s policy to an absent-minded old man (Alan Arkin), who possess a very valuable violin.

I bet you can guess where this is going… But things quickly come apart for Mickey when his plan to steal the violin and replace with a fake are interrupted by the hotheaded Randy (Billy Crudup), who was hired by the old man to install a security system in his house. The rest of the film becomes an escalating mess for Mick…

The very flaw of this film is Kinnear’s opening monologue, which gives away WAY too much! This film was originally titled “The Convincer,” and was about 15 to 30 minutes longer when it was screened at Sundance last year. The film was later recut and retitled by distributors, which could be why the film’s opening monologue is one huge spoiler (nice going, guys). Director Jill Sprecher (“Thirteen Conversations About One Thing”) has disowned “Thin Ice;” she even tried to get her name removed from the credits. Despite the film given spoiler, it’s still wickedly entertaining– but that’s mainly due to the performances.

When it comes to acting, this film is great. Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin, Billy Crudup, Lea Thompson (Mickey’s wife), David Harbour and Bob Balaban (a violin dealer) are all excellent in their parts. But the one to really mention here is Billy Crudup, who is truly fascinating as Randy; he’s always interesting to watch, e.g., Dr. Manhattan in the “Watchmen.” “Thin Ice” is worth seeing just for Crudup’s performance.

“Thin Ice” is a thoroughly engaging film filled with twists and turns. Not one you necessarily have to rush to the theater to see, but do see it.

Thin Ice
Rated R for language, brief violence and sexual content.
Directed by Jill Sprecher
Starring: Greg Kinnear, Billy Crudup, Alan Arkin, David Harbour, Lea Thompson, Michelle Arthur and Bob Balaban
Running time: 93 min.
