Mel Gibson Enters Mexico Illegally In ‘Get The Gringo’
Mel Gibson needs a hit. If there is one way to get back on the good side of those in Hollywood, it’s to star in a movie that makes a bunch of cash. Suddenly, your past transgressions don’t mean as much to the producer bean counter types. It’s either that or you have great hair and charm the pants off of the country (cough Robert Downey Jr. cough).
Will Mel’s hit be “Get The Gringo”? After watching this trailer, I’m leaning towards no.
For the seventeen of you that have seen it, this looks like “Payback” but only with Mel in Mexico instead. If that’s true, it will be 90 minutes or so of Mel being very dry and hyper-violent. You know, just like most of his characters. It’s almost like that is good and bad news all rolled into one, as that type of character really is his bread and butter but yet so overdone.
Again, Mel desperately needs a successful movie. “The Beaver” flopped in a big way and “Edge of Darkness” was a modest success, pulling in a bit over $80 million. Mel co-wrote the screenplay for “Get The Gringo” with first time director Adrian Grunberg, which makes one wonder why Mel didn’t direct this as well. Either way, I’m a sucker for Mel The Movie Star and will probably be in a theater for this…if it makes it to theaters. There is a chance this sucker goes right to video. Poor Riggs.
