Conan O’Brien ’60 Minutes’ Preview; Plus, Obama Out-Monologues Leno at WH Correspondents’ Dinner
CBS has released a video preview and partial transcript of Conan O’Brian’s “60 Minutes” interview, scheduled to air Sunday night. He certainly chooses his words carefully. Passive-aggressive, or just trying not to get sued?
Elsewhere in the fallout from the Great Late Night Kerfluffle, Jay Leno hosted Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner. When the organizers booked him, they were probably figuring that he’d be a less controversial host than 2009 emcee Wanda Sykes.
Yeah, not so much.
“I am glad that the only person whose ratings fell more than mine is here tonight,” Obama said. “I’m also glad that I’m speaking first — because we’ve all seen what happens when somebody takes the time slot after Leno.”
Leno, perhaps trying to keep it innocuous, found the audience slightly less receptive. He looked more and more uncomfortable as his easy-target jokes failed to garner more than polite titters. Fortunately for Leno, nothing saves the night quite like lesbian bondage club jokes. One hopes he thanked the GOP profusely for giving him that one.
If you have a few hours, you can watch the entire Nerd Prom ’10 program over on C-Span’s site. If you just want to cut to the chase, here are Obama’s and Leno’s remarks.
