‘Titans’ Takes Easter Weekend Box Office Title

The much-ballyhooed remake of “Clash Of The Titans” handily won the box office race Easter Weekend, but fell short of hyped-up expectations. The film brought in an estimated $61.4 million in its opening weekend, between traditional theater screenings and the 3D screens the movie was converted to inhabit.

Even with the added hoopla of adding 3D to the film late in the production, the opening fell short of similar movies such as “300″ ($70 million on its first weekend), or the previous 3D weekend winner, Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” ($116 million). With the boost from Good Friday and Easter, “Titans” holds the record for Easter weekend debuts.

Tyler Perry’s ensemble comedy “Why Did I Get Married Too?” opened in a stronger-than-expected fashion, earning an estimated $30.2 million and landing in second place. The sequel beat out the original “Married?”, which brought in $21 million on its first weekend.

Miley Cyrus’ entry to PG fare came in fourth place on the weekend, with an estimated $21.6 million. The adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks novel, Cyrus’ first away from the Hannah Montana character, opened on Wednesday to generally solid reviews.

While we await the numbers splitting out the 3D exhibition of “Clash” from the normal houses (which will arrive late Sunday night), let’s take a look at the Top Five, courtesy of BoxOfficeMojo.com:
