‘Alice’ Wins Third Week Straight; ‘Wimpy Kid’ Beats Gerard Butler
While Tim Burton’s “Alice In Wonderland” racked up its third consecutive weekly box office win in decisive fashion, the battle for second was slightly more contentious. While the star combination of Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston was expected to bring in the audiences, a wimpy kid beat them both.
The youth-market book adaptation “Diary Of A Wimpy Kid” edged out the romantic comedy “The Bounty Hunter” in weekend estimates by less than a million dollars.
The week’s other wide new release, Jude Law and Forest Whitaker’s “Repo Men,” opened in fourth place to a lackluster $6.1 million. “The Runaways,” starring Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart, opened in limited release to $803,000 ($3,300 per screen).
