You can’t throw one of the biggest film festivals in America in Robert Rodriguez’s backyard and expect him to keep out. A good thing, too, as the SXSW Film Festival announced today that Austin’s biggest movie troublemaker is bringing a “first look” of director Nimród Antal’s “Predators” to the show.

Filmed on location at Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin, “Predators” stars Adrien Brody as a mercenary who finds he’s been double-crossed and sold out as bait for a new, meaner version of Predator. The movie (which appears to have completely ignored the AvP series, thank Buddha) also stars Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Laurence Fishburne, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Oleg Taktarov and Mahershalalhashbaz Ali.

Rodriguez is stoked to show off his latest production in his hometown:

My director Nimród Antal and I are excited to bring this first look at Predators to Austin’s SXSW Film Festival, an event that’s become vital to the filmmaking scene. Austin is my home and I’m proud that Predators was conceived and filmed here

The “Predators” advance glance runs at the Alamo Ritz on Friday, March 12 at 10:15 pm. Like most of the slate of films premiering at the festival, the “Predators” is open to SXSW badge holders only, on a first-come, first-seated basis.
