The Three Musketeers Gets Two Reboots

All for two, and two for all! That’s right; there are two adaptations of Dumas’ 17th century classic “The Three Musketeers” currently underway.

For the first, Lionel Wigram, the producer responsible for the latest “Sherlock Holmes” revamp, is teaming up with “The Men Who Stare at Goats’” writer Peter Straughan. Although no director or cast have been chosen, we can expect Warner Bros. to give the “Musketeers” a sexy, action-filled, re-imagining, similar to the one they gave “Sherlock Holmes.”

Meanwhile, with the backing of Germany’s Constantin, Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil) and his friend Andrew Davies (Bridget Jones Diary) have joined forces to write their own updated version of “The Three Musketeers,” only they are taking it one step further and will be producing the film in 3-D.  While it will still be a period piece, Anderson says that they will be modernizing the story, and that “corsets and feathered hats don’t take center stage.”

“The Three Musketeers” has seen several film adaptations over the years, dating all the way back to 1903. The story is based on the adventures of the young d’Artagnan, who leaves home with hopes of joining the French King’s loyal guard. He quickly bonds with three of the musketeers- Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, who live by the creed “All for one and one for all.”

I’m excited to see what plays out as these two productions race to the box-office.  My only request to both projects? Please keep Bryan Adams away from your soundtrack.

    I liked the 1990′s version!

I am very excited to hear this. This is one of my favorite movie series out here. I just hope neither of them ruin it!
