‘Tron Legacy’ Viral Site Counts Down To…?
Even before we found out about “Tron Legacy,” the folks behind keeping the “Tron” story alive have used viral marketing and hidden clues to keep fans interested in the property. The 20th Anniversary DVD had a few clues pointing to a video game sequel that many thought would be a film continuation of the 1982 fan favorite. Then, after seeing “Tron Legacy” test effect footage at San Diego Comic-Con, attendees were led on an elaborate scavenger hunt to a replica of Kevin Flynn’s arcade, complete with a hidden door leading to a life-size mockup of the new movie’s lightcycles.
This month, several people received a mysterious package in the mail, with a handwritten note reading “/ZeroHour.” Intrepid game grid enthusiasts figured out the note meant FlynnLives.com/ZeroHour. The site contains a Flash-animated binary clock, which looks to be comprised of “bits,” like we saw in the 1982 film. The folks at First Showing have interpreted the clock to be counting down to Wednesday, February 24 at 11:00 am Eastern (10:00 am CT).
We know there’s a full-length trailer due to be attached to “Alice In Wonderland,” in theaters March 5. Will we see this trailer in 2D online a few days early?
