Horror Beatdown – February 15, 2010

Yes kids, once again it’s time for another Horror Beatdown. In today’s edition, you’ll find…

Diesel. Twohy. Riddick 3.

It’s only taken about six years but there will finally be a follow-up to the highest grossing Dungeons and Dragons movie ever. Variety (by way of Bloody Disgusting.com) reports that Vin Diesel and his erstwhile partner in crime are teaming up once again for “Riddick,” the third movie featuring everyone’s favorite Furian. Twohy will write and direct the feature, which is supposed to be closer in tone to “Pitch Black” that the mid-level Underdark module that  was “The Chronicles of Riddick.”

And for those of you confused by the D&D references, grab your favorite tabletop gaming geek and have him watch “CoR” and let him point out all the obvious D&Disms. Really.

“Season of the Witch” Moved.

Spring isn’t the only season being pushed back. Shock ‘til You Drop.com is reporting that Nicolas Cage’s period horror film, “Season of the Witch” is being moved back as well. But unlike Spring’s delay of a scant six weeks, “Season” had fallen from its March 19th release to a less certain, “Coming Soon” – rarely a good sign for a movie. The original date would have had them facing off against “Repo Men” and the music bio-pic “The Runaways.” The next likely day would put it on April 9th where it would go head to head with another Lionsgate feature, “Kick Ass” – coincidentally, also staring Cage.

Oh, the irony.

“The Last Lovecraft” Gets Distributor

It’s no small secret – I loves me some Lovecraft. So, when I saw a listing for this year’s Slamdance Film Festival (no to be confused with its older, more distinguished sibling, SUNdance) I let out a giddy, little tekeli-li when I saw a listing for a new horror-comedy by the name of “The Last Lovecraft: The Relic of Cthulhu.” There was only bad thing: it had no distributor. Well, the stars apparently are right now as “The Last Lovecraft” finally has a distribution deal. Screen Daily tells us that Dark Sky Films has picked up the rights and is looking at an October theatrical release followed by a DVD release. Enjoy some Lovecraftian high-larity below.
