Riley Out, Malkovich Seeing ‘Red’

Not all comic book adaptations are about superheroes. Some are about spies. Okay, maybe just one so far. WildStorm/DC Comics’ “Red” is going to the big screen. John C. Riley was originally signed on to play the lead, but he has been replaced by John Malkovich.

Malkovich is joining Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, and Bruce Willis. I never thought I’d see that as the cast for a comic book movie. The film is being produced by Summit Entertainment. Robert Schwentke will direct the Erich and Jon Hoeber written script.

The three-book series was bought up by Summit last year. It focuses on a former black-ops (why’s everything about race right now?) CIA agent who is being hunted by an assassin who knows a thing or two about gadgets. “Red” has an expected release date of November 19.
