NBC Universal Sale One Step Closer

“30 Rock” is going to have some new material soon. Sadly, that means no more microwaves.

The sale of NBC Universal from General Electric to Comcast is one step closer. General Electric, which currently owns 80 percent of the broadcast giant, is willing to sell off 51 percent of the company for $30 billion.

There are still a few things standing in the way of the deal going. Vivendi Entertainment, which holds the other 20 percent, has the right to veto the deal. The FCC could bust the plan on anti-trust grounds.

This deal will be pretty ground breaking. A cable company owning a broadcast station? Comcast already owns networks such as E! and G4, but those are cable channels that other cable providers could block if they wanted.
