Broken Lizard’s ‘Salmon’ Gets December Release Date

Broken Lizard Industries confirmed a December 11 release date for their fourth movie, “The Slammin’ Salmon.” Anchor Bay Films picked up the independently-produced film for distribution in America.

Filmed during the 2008 WGA strike, “The Slammin’ Salmon” tells the tale a former heavyweight champ / restaurant owner “Slammin” Cleon Salmon (Michael Clark Duncan), who owes $20,000 to the Yakuza and forces his waiters to sell more food than they ever have in one night. The winner gets $10,000 cash; the loser gets beaten up by Cleon.

“Salmon” marks the directoral debut of Lizard Kevin Heffernan, and stars all five troupe members, along with Will Forte, Cobie Smulders, Lance Henriksen and Vivica A. Fox. All five Lizards collaborated on the script.

When we spoke with the troupe in October, Lemme told us the movie doesn’t focus as much on the normal restaurant / waitstaff hijinks as much as the lunacy of the staff, and the complete nuttery of Duncan’s Cleon. The film debuted at Slamdance this year to rave reviews.

Here’s the red-band trailer, courtesy of Collider. Since it’s red band, that means it’s highly NSFW. However, if you’re reading this far, you’re on board with that anyway. Enjoy.

I guess I always count “Troopers” as the first film. Good catch, Zach!
