Read The 2008 ‘Black List’ Scripts

For every “Transformers” or “Saw” sequel that gets foisted onto the world, there are hundreds of high-quality scripts that go unproduced in Hollywood each year. There’s an unofficial contest that takes place among the talent agents and studio execs that compiles the best of those scripts into “The Black List.”

We’ll find out what the “most liked” scripts you’ll never see from 2009 are at the end of the year, but if you’d like some good script action now, you can read the winners from the 2008 Black List for free.

Each script is available as a PDF download from this link. The top five scripts, as ranked by votes from 250 film execs:

  • “The Beaver,” Kyle Killen
  • “The Oranges,” Jay Reiss & Ian Helfer
  • “Butter,” Jason Micallef
  • “Big Hole,” Michael Gilio
  • “The Low Dweller,” Brad Ingelsby

You can see the full 2008 ranking list from Nikki Finke’s Deadline.com post from December.
