‘Paranormal Activity’ In Dallas: Midnight Shows This Weekend

It’s somewhat fitting that in the tenth anniversary year of the movie that started the cinéma vérité craze, “The Blair Witch Project,” we get another movie shot in the same way that’s creating a similar buzz.

For most of the movie-going public, the big horror movies of the year heave either already come out (“Halloween 2”, “Final Destination 4”, “Jennifer’s Body”) or have yet to come out (“Zombieland”, “Saw VI”). Flying quietly under the radar – except to most horror fans – has been “Paranormal Activity.”  For horror fans, this has been the “Oh shit, I have to see this!!!” event of the year. The movie has not only generated genre accolades from BloodyDisgusting.com and Dread Central, but also comes complete with its own ghost story.

“Paranormal Activity” has been packing them in limited release – only 13 cities nationwide. This week, however, Paramount – using the “Demand it” feature on Eventful.com – has decided to expand its release to another 20 cities. And, as luck would have it, Dallas will be getting a showing. Look for the first showing on Thursday, October 1, at AMC NorthPark at midnight only.

HOLLYWOOD, CA (September 28, 2009) –The ParanormalMovie.com website has been deluged with over 230,000 “demands” from coast-to-coast, prompting Paramount Pictures to expand the new thriller PARANORMAL ACTIVITY to 20-additional cities across the country beginning this Friday, October 2nd.

The cities with the highest demand, include Los Angeles, CA (Arclight Hollywood); New York, NY (AMC Empire); Chicago, IL (AMC River East); Dallas, TX (AMC Northpark); Houston, TX (AMC Studio); San Diego, CA (AMC Mission Valley); Phoenix, AZ (Harkins Tempe Marketplace); San Francisco, CA (AMC Metreon); Philadelphia, PA (National Amusement Bridge); Atlanta, GA (Atlantic Station); Miami, FL (AMC Adventure); San Antonio, TX (AMC Huebner Oaks); Las Vegas, NV (Rave Town Square); Minneapolis, MN (AMC Rosedale); Denver, CO (Regal Continental); Detroit, MI (AMC Forum); DC/Baltimore (AMC Georgetown); Sacramento, CA (Cinemark Complex 14); San Jose, CA (AMC Mercado); and Tampa, FL (AMC Veterans). The film will continue to play exclusively as a midnight only showing.

Called “one of the scariest movies of all time” by Bloody-Disgusting.com, PARANORMAL ACTIVITY played to sold-out crowds in exclusive midnight showings in cities across the country this past weekend, with fans driving great distances to be among the first to see the film in their town. Tickets for the existing 12-markets are quickly selling out, including Seattle, WA (Neptune); Ann Arbor, MI (State); Durham, SC (Southpoint 16); Baton Rouge, LA (RAVE Mall of Louisiana 15); Boulder, CO (Cinemark 16); Columbus, OH (Studio 35); Orlando, FL (AMC Universal Cineplex); Madison, WI (Marcus Eastgate 16); Santa Cruz, CA (Del Mar 3); State College, PA (Premiere College 9); Tucson, AZ (El Con); and Lincoln, NE (Ross Media Center).

In PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, after a young, middle class couple moves into what seems like a typical suburban “starter” tract house, they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night.  Especially when they sleep.  Or try to.

Directed, written and produced by Oren Peli, the innovative thriller stars Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat.  The film was produced by Jason Blum.  Steven Schneider served as executive producer.
