Spielberg Haunted By ‘Paranormal Activity’
Over the next few weeks, you’ll be hearing a lot about “Paranormal Activity.” The extremely lo-fi horror movie, shot for $15,000 and debuting in eleven cities this weekend (not including Dallas, yet – click here to “demand” it), has raised a lot of eyebrows after screenings at festivals this year.
Two years ago, a screener copy was given to Steven Spielberg, so he could determine if Dreamworks would help distribute the movie. It left a big impression on the directing legend: apparently, he thought the DVD was haunted.
Spielberg had taken a “Paranormal Activity” DVD to his Pacific Palisades estate, and not long after he watched it, the door to his empty bedroom inexplicably locked from the inside, forcing him to summon a locksmith.
While Dreamworks ceded the distribution deal to Paramount, Spielberg still claims the movie was “one of the scariest movies I’ve ever seen.”
