Dwayne Johnson To Star In ‘The Tooth Fairy’

The cry has long been heard that there are no original ideas (there’s also the age-old belief that there were only five plots to begin with, but that’s another story).  20th Century Fox has come up with a new idea, although one has to wonder if they just put up giant dart boards around the office with random words – the “Whose Line Is It Anyway” approach to screenwriting.  “Yes, Jones, you’ve hit ‘The Rock,’ ‘Hockey,’ and ‘Tooth Fairy.’  I think you may be on to something here…”

And now, coming to theaters on January 22, 2010, is “The Tooth Fairy,” starring Dwayne Johnson as a hockey player who hurts a young boy’s feelings and is sentenced to act as the “real life” tooth fairy for a week.

Probably easier to have Johnson explain: “Any time that I can put on a tutu with wings and have my magic fairy dust and collect teeth and have Julie Andrews as my fairy godmother and Billy Crystal as one of my other tooth fairies – It comes down to material. And you always look for good material that’s going to entertain the audiences. I jumped at playing the Tooth Fairy because it’s an opportunity to show the world, for the very first time, a movie about a character that’s been around for centuries. And it reminds me of like Miracle on 34th Street, you know, where you introduced the world to Santa Claus or what our vision of the world of Santa Claus is going to be. This is our version of introducing the world to the Tooth Fairy.”

All of this leads me to ponder… does the Tooth Fairy even visit hockey players?

Sure, we'd love to think that we're solving all of society's ills, or curing cancer, or stopping Uwe Boll from adapting more video games into horrible films. None of these, sadly, are feasible at this time. [...Read More About RCC]
