Perry Can’t ‘Do Bad’ At Weekend Box Office
Tyler Perry’s latest film, “I Can Do Bad All By Myself” topped the box office this past weekend at an astonishing $24 million and over 2,225 playdates which is doing almost double the second-best movie “9″ which drew in $10.9 million. The Tyler Perry play-turned-movie, starring Taraji P. Henson, Gladys Knight, and Mary J. Blige (along with, of course, Perry as Madea) raked in $8.6 million on the first night, $9.9 million the following night and a projected $5.5 million Sunday.
While exceeding with his newest movie, Tyler Perry has finished “Why Did I Get Married, Too” which is due out on April 2, 2010. Currently, Tyler Perry’s top grosser is “Madea Goes To Jail” as an astounding $90 million.
Although Focus Features’ “9″ came in second in the box office this weekend, according to Focus president Jack Foley, “We’re very happy with our numbers because it’s not in the box of the typical animated film. You can’t put this in the same category as ‘Ice Age’ or ‘Wall-E’.”
However, “9″ faces some upcoming competition this coming weekend with “Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs.” Hopefully this uniquely-spun movie will survive against all odds.
