Warner Brothers Sets Up DC Entertainment
Warner Brothers wants to finally get all of its DC Comics ducks in a row, setting up a new division called DC Entertainment.
The division, headed up by “Harry Potter” shepherding exec Diane Nelson, will line up all of the various superhero and graphic novel properties in movies, TV, and digital distribution.
The move shows WB wants to quiet long-standing criticism that the studio has never been able to fully leverage the DC properties into a cohesive, profitable strategy. With no unifying plan in place, WB’s various divisions have been working with the various characters in the DC universe without having a long-term roadmap.
While the move raises a few eyebrows coming the week after Disney acquired Marvel, plans to roll out DC Entertainment have been in the works for the last two years, according to various reports.
The slate of upcoming films from the newly minted DC Entertainment shingle include next year’s “Jonah Hex” with Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, and “The Losers” with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana and Chris Evans. A “Green Lantern” film is scheduled for 2011, and there’s a hole for a new Batman film in 2012 (with no further details on anyone attached, so calm down).
