Get There Early: August 19, 2009
We’re all over the map today…
Law-Abiding Citizen
Excitement: Check. Explosions: Check. Antagonist we relate to moreso than the protagonist: Check. Unrealistic former lifestyle of alleged antagonist that leads to astronomical amounts of death and destruction: Check. The plot summary as described by IMDb says, “An everyday guy decides to take justice into his own hands after a plea bargain sets his family’s killers free. His target: The district attorney who orchestrated the deal.” The trailer puts that to the lie. We can expect exactly this from the writer of “Equilibrium” and “Ultraviolet”, but I suspect we’ve just been shown the best of the film, again. And when the best of the film is featured in the trailer… well, you know the rest. Check it out October 16, 2009.
The Invention of Lying
Speaking of… So, as the trailer points out, if no one knows what lying is, and everything that comes out of your mouth is supposed to be true, then even when you lie, you’re telling the truth, one way or another. Ricky Gervais shows us his… uh… talents! by writing, directing, and playing the lead role in this fascinating comedy. If you’re like me and looking at his face tickled your brain with familiarity, he also played Ferdy the Fence in “Stardust”. I think this may be one of those films that we can safely sit down to enjoy, because Mark said so. “The Invention of Lying” comes out October 2, 2009.
Me and Orson Welles
Without peeking on the intarwebs and just watching the trailer, can you tell what this movie is about? The answer should be, “I think so”, because if a trailer gives away too much, what’s the point of sitting through the whole feature? If it’s too vague, what do we have to pique our interest? The teaser for “Me and Orson Welles” has struck exactly that perfect balance that I want to know more, and I’m intrigued by the potential story. The absolute worst part of this trailer is that it is truly a teaser: There’s no confirmed release date for the US, just that it’ll be “sometime this year”.
