Aw, Phooey: Big-Screen Version of Hong Kong Phooey Planned

I loved Hong Kong Phooey as a kid. The Saturday morning cartoon, about a canine police squad janitor who jumped into a file cabinet to change into a super crime-fighting pooch, was a Seventies classic. Since I loved it, then I shouldn’t be surprised that Hollywood’s trying to revive it for the big screen.

HongKongPhooey“Family Guy” writer / producer David A. Goodman is writing the script for the big-screen adaptation of Hong Kong Phooey for Alcon Entertainment. According to Variety, It’ll be a live-action / animated hybrid flick directed by Alex Zamm, who Goodman worked with on “Futurama.”

There’s obviously no word as to who will be the voice of Hong Kong Phooey in the film. If you remember the show, you’ll know that legendary raspy actor Scatman Crothers was Penrod ‘Penry’ Pooch.

Now, if you’ll pardon me, I’m going to shudder uncontrollably.
